Our mission is to empower people through affordable and transformative mobility

Where mobility is an impeding factor, we improve:

Access to health care, educational, and social services.

It’s simple math. Riding a bike is 3x faster than walking. A bike means it takes 20 minutes to get to school, not an hour. It means healthcare workers can see 10 patients a day, not 3. The simple bike gives people time to improve their lives.

Women’s access to professional opportunities.

In many of the rural areas where bike shops are located, women are at the front leading community development. Employment and access to training at the bike shops for women means the ability to buy food, pay school fees, and have empowerment over their lives.

Access to life-saving medicine.

The supply chain of medicine in many areas goes from a regional hospital, to a district hospital, and then to a local clinic. Those in need of medicine for HIV treatment or other illnesses have to get to the clinic or have medicine brought to them. The bike allows people to get to a clinic or mobile healthcare workers to deliver medicine much faster than walking.

Economic productivity in communities.

Just like any community, small business creation leads to more creation. Bike shops create a flywheel effect of jobs, mobility, and access; which repeats again and again. Profits from the bike shop then can lead to more investment in schools, water wells, or healthcare programs.

How it works

We collect and repair 400 bikes per container.

We ship the container to a rural community in Africa.

The container converts into a sustainable bike shop.

The bike shop becomes a small business engine that drives change.

The net result is funding for local schools, health clinics, and infrastructure projects (through bike sales); and mobility for healthcare workers and community members seeking education and employment opportunities.
